Charles H. Johnson, a Harvard man, was assistant warden at Sing Sing, under Thomas Mott Osborne (see above). Before Sing Sing, Johnson was superintendent at the Leake and Watts Orphan Asylum in Yonkers. When he left Sing Sing, he became warden of the State Reformatory for Boys in Cheshire CT, where he served for about a year. query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F20B10F83C5F13738... Here he is as an older man; apparently he was "Most Worshipful Past Grand Master" in the Masons. cdm16287.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/compoundobject/collection...

Harry Angstrom and Richard Arthur Norton: Yes, it appears the spelling of Mr. Clancy's name needs to be corrected. Thanks for the heads up!
