English translation of description: "Aviation Accident. Two conflicting aircraft, which is on fire. The pilots can save with their parachute. Photo 1930, place unknown." This appears to be retouched, more a photomontage than a realistic depiction of a mid air collision. It's still a really great image though.

Definitely a montage --one plane is the mirror image of the other. Some 'smoke' has been added. The picture of the two parachuting men was probably the original over which the 'two' planes were put. I struggle to recognize the aircraft type. I think it is either in British or American markings, but it looks more like a German WW I plane to me, a Rumpler perhaps. German types were known to have flown for the US Forces long after WW I. I'm thinking a plane used for Hollywood movies.

Fake, if ever we saw one. Bemused passengers still on board?

Definitely no fighter. I agree with turkveil: Heinkel He.111 bomber because of its slightly asymmetrical nose (bending to the right a little). Perhaps 'gevechtsvliegtuig' is better translated as 'combat plane', to avoid future miscommunication.

Het vliegtuig is vernoemd naar Nikolaus August Otto een pionier in de luchtvaart.

In Nationaal Archief Magazine 4/2005 staat over de emigratiehoos naar Australië een heel artikel: misschien is het nog te bestellen voor de geïnteresserden. Volgens Europese statistieken in 2004 hebben maar liefst 50.000 mensen Nederland ingeruild voor Australië. De grootste hoos zag je in de jaren vijftig en als je dat relateert aan de totale Nederlandse bevolking is dat een enorme hoeveelheid (één op de 30 Nederlanders is vertrokken). Sterker nog: ondanks de wederopbouw stimuleerde de Nederlandse overheid emigratie enorm met veel voorlichting en zelfs financiële prikkels. Men was namelijk bang dat voor de snel groeiende bevolking niet genoeg ruimte en werkgelegenheid zou zijn. Verder spelen onvrede over de instand gebleven verzuiling en angst voor nieuwe internationale conflicten en het communisme een grote rol.
