Arrival of Margot Fonteyn in a Dior outfit at Mascot, Sydney, May 1957 / Australian Photographic Agency

Left to Right: Helen Brecknell, Helen Thibou, Sonia Humphrey (1947-2011), Margot Fonteyn (1919-1991), Michael Somes (1917-1994), Edouard Borovanksky (1902-1959); Mascot Airport, Sydney, May 1957. Don't miss reading "When Sonia met Margot" -- a brief article by Valerie Lawson that explains how these 3 nine-year-old girls came to meet Margot Fonteyn (and appeared on page one of The Sydney Morning Herald) -- and how this chance meeting led to another front page Herald story, five years later, showing Sonia and Fonteyn looking at the previous photo together. This is a gem of a footnote that totally brings this photo to life!

Identifications (shown above in notes) by Valerie Lawson in Behind Ballet. In 2010, Valerie Lawson was the Nancy Keesing Fellow at the State Library of New South Wales where she researched the ballet and dance collections.
