    Any special reason why the image has not been enhanced a bit? The tones occupy about half of the normal range... (not counting the border...)

Our goal is to try to digitally preserve the items as they appear, so we perform only a minimal amount of image adjustment during the digitization process. Unfortunately the emulsion on tintypes tends to darken and crack with age, so that is why the image is so dark in comparison to some of the others in the collection. I hope this has answered your question, and thanks again for your interest!
