According to the Omaha Public Library's site: "The grand buildings of the Exposition no longer exist because of the poor quality of the construction materials. Most of the structures were built using green wood and plaster in order to keep the cost of these immense buildings down." www.omahapubliclibrary.org/transmiss/about/about.html Too bad! In 1898 the U.S. Post Office Department issued a set of nine commemorative postage stamps to mark the 1898 Trans-Mississippi Exposition in Omaha. The finely engraved stamps of the Trans-Mississippi Issue, or "Trans-Miss" or simply the "Omahas" for short, depict various scenes of the West and are today highly prized by collectors.

A stylish sight

These should all be re-scanned. The resolution is only adequate for printing at a 150-line screen halftone and the noise is unacceptable for archival quality.
