As an employer, the thinking of T.C. Beirne, was well ahead of his time and his fairness generated fierce loyalty. He offered a generously supported superannuation scheme, however his efforts at establishing profit sharing and employee share ownership plans designed to better reward employees were, for mainly historical reasons, largely unsuccessful. The “grand old man of the Valley”, as he became known, built Queensland’s leading department store business and a fortune for those times. As one of Australia’s first millionaires, T. C. Beirne’s generous philanthropy created lasting community legacies. Source: leaders.slq.qld.gov.au/inductees/t-c-beirne-1860-1949/

I didn't take it as rude. Just cheeky. That's OK. Fond childhood school holiday memories of the ride in from Mt Gravatt on the tram with Nanna.

The TC Beirne Department Store is a heritage-listed former department store at 28 Duncan Street, Fortitude Valley, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Robin Dods and built in 1902. Further extensions were made through to 1938 to the designs of Dods and Hennessey & Hennessey.
