From the will of the author, Samuel William Leonard Williams (1778-1873), proved on 18th February 1873: "The remainder of the copies of my work 'The Shade of Byron' are in the hands of my bookseller and publisher, Mr. James Burns, No. 15 Southampton Row, Holborn, W.C., and with my bookbinder Mr. Dalton, No. 14 King Street, Long Acre, who has my instructions for re-binding them, and also those remaining in two packing boxes in my apartments. If any arrangement can be made to promote the sale of them by advertisements, I wish it to be made, provided there may be funds enough to permit it."
