Per wikipedia, Baroness Maria (Mary) Vetsera was the mistress of Crown Prince Rudolf of the Austro-Hungarian empire. She was found dead along with him at the Mayerling hunting lodge. See the Mayerling Incident. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria_Vetsera

If you look at her clothes I would think the picture was taken about 1888.

Really, I had to click on the thumbnail after reading that name! It's like something from a Marx Brothers movie.

Free New York Times articles on Dorcas Iyams Snodgrass, a 26 year old nurse from Mount Vernon, New York, who dropped out of site on July 17, 1912: July 23, 1912: "YOUNG WOMAN GONE LIKE DOROTHY ARNOLD; Miss Dorcas Snodgrass of Mount Vernon Has Been Missing Since Last Wednesday." Her body was found in a creek near the village of Catskill, New York, on Sunday, July 28, 1912. Sunday, July 30, 1912: "SUSPECT FOUL PLAY IN SNODGRASS CASE; Officials at Catskill, Where Body Was Found, Say Nurse Was Not a Suicide." July 31, 1912: "CAN'T PROVE MURDER OF MISS SNODGRASS; Tests with a Dummy in the Creek Leave Authorities Still Uncertain." August 1, 1912: "NURSE'S BODY SENT SOUTH.; Relatives Think Miss Snodgrass Fell Into Creek While Ill." August 3, 1912: "FINDS NURSE KILLED HERSELF; Physician's Report on Autopsy Shows Miss Snodgrass Committed Suicide." A final, brief article, and then there's no more about Miss Snodgrass in the Times Archives: August 6, 1912: "CLUE IN SNODGRASS CASE.; Handkerchief with Star Picked Up Near Where Body Was Found." An interesting sidelight is that a friend of Dorcas Snodgrass, 16 year old Amelia Danby, went missing on July 13, 1912, but she returned safely home on August 4, 1912. August 6, 1912: "MISS DANBY COMES HOME.; Missing Mount Vernon Girl Says She Was Afraid to Return Sooner."
