Aunty ABC became a 'Commission' in 1932, so this photo must be after that. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Broadcasting_Corporation [busting to know what the band were playing!]

beachcomber australia [http://www.flickr.com/photos/51979177@N02] Good point, thanks beachcomber and quasymody! Perhaps this event was the broadcast on MS KANIMBLA? nla.gov.au/nla.news-article95930493 Too difficult to say for certain though. Great investigating! EDIT: really wouldn't be MS KANIMBLA now that you look at it, they're on a much smaller vessel.

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/51979177@N02] Australian National Maritime Museum on The Commons Ha ha! There might be an extra clue in these other photos. I have found nothing on this occasion yet, but I did find an interesting 1934 article about "SEA CHANTIES - A Dying Tradition" which may be of interest. It mentions the ABC Military Band as "causing long-dead deep-sea sailormen to wring their spectral hands in despair" ! trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/17070023
