OK, that's correct. This photo, cropped, appeared inThe Washington times., September 11, 1919 and The Washington (D.C.) Evening Star., January 16, 1920, with the captions: "MME. SALVADOR SOL, Wife of the minister of Salvador, who will assist Mrs. Alice Pike Barney in her tea and auction sale of seats and boxes for the actors' benefit." and "MME. SALVADOR SOL. Don Salvador Sol and his wife were in Washington a little over a year. In August, 1920, he resigned his post and they returned to Salvador the following month to resume their lives as coffee plantation owners with intentions of building the country's first sugar mill. She was the former Eva Duke, born in Salvador but raised and educated in California. (San Francisco Chronicle, 7-21-1918, p. 13.)

PHOTO 1 - EUREKA ! At last I think I have a definite location - from the north end of DARLING ISLAND looking SOUTH across Pyrmont Bay to Pyrmont in the distance. Most of those buildings in the left distance were resumed and demolished soon after this photo (1904). The 'white' building is Boylan's Hotel on the site of its replacement, the Pyrmont Bridge Hotel. The steep ramp on to the new Pyrmont Bridge is just in front of the gabled building at far left. The wharf buildings are a new wheat storage and loading wharf. Evidently there was a bumper crop in 1903. The chimney belongs to the Pyrmont Power Station (not Ultimo), and acrobat Melvin Vaniman photographed a panorama looking the reverse direction from the top of the chimney in December 1903, presumably just before it started belching smoke. I think the "Sol" was transporting the Government photographer (was it John Degotardi Jnr?). I wonder what he was standing on - another ship?

The stream of men from left to right flows from south to north, El Paso is behint the bull ring. The pipes and smoke plume should be El Paso smelter.

Found in El Paso Herald issue February 22, 1911 (The Library of Congress, Chronicling America) an article that mentions the soldiers where moved from Juárez bullring to another quarter behind the customs house. Is it possible the Call Nr. locates this picture on February 1911? Dr. Roberto Duarte
