Het is een granito aanrecht. Graniet is een natuursteen met een egale kleur. Granito is een menging van cement, kleurstof en graniet-steentjes. Netjes gepolijst. De bodem van de gootsteen waren tegeltjes, meestal in geel / creme. Granito aanrechtbladen worden nog steeds gemaakt door veelal familiebedrijven me Italiaanse oorsprong.

Let er bovendien op dat het kookwater wordt afgegoten in een andere pan! Het kookwater werd bewaard, misschien om soep of saus van te maken. In kookwater zaten/zitten nl. allerlei gezonde stoffen, die zeker niet door het gootsteengat weggespoeld dienden te worden.

From www.cultureandrecreation.gov.au/articles/australianhistory/:
"In 1861, the NSW government opened up the free selection of Crown land. The Crown Lands Acts 1861 permitted any person to select up to 320 acres on the condition of paying a deposit and living on the land for three years. The Acts also limited the use of Crown lands by Aboriginal people as until this time, pastoral lands were still able to be legitimately used by them.
So, a selector was a person who had taken up that right to land.
I have seen one book about Australian colonial/federation photogrpahy which titles this image
