Sikorsky SH-3A Sea King 152120 HS-6 ‘Indians’ Modex 502 Code NS of CVGS-53 assigned to CVS-14 USS Ticonderoga. “Zapped” by the Royal Canadian Navy with red maple leaf emblems stuck on its nose and the front number altered from ‘502’ to read ‘508’ or ‘50B’. An indication of perhaps having being in contact with a Canadian military organization. The naval vessel with the hull number 19 was the then brand new USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19) who’s homeport was San Diego, California. So this will be Naval Base North Island. From Circa March 1942 to 1943 flew Civil Air Patrol Coastal Patrol missions CP Base 17, Suffolk, Long Island, NY. 30 May 1944 it was registered in Grand Rapids MI where it flew with the Civil Air Patrol 'Wolverine'. Registration cancelled 15 August 1944. This picture must have been taken in the early 40's as NC28514 was not built until 1940.
