Based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the Mackay-Bennett was owned by the Commercial Cable Company, and was the first of four ships hired by the White Star Line to recover bodies of the victims of the Titanic disaster. The Captain was Frederick Harold Larnder. Some grim details here.

My husbands grand uncle died on the MacKay-Bennett in Sept. 1915. Does anyone have any history on the ship at that time. This of course was afew yrs. after this ship was used to retrieve the bodies from the Titanic. The documents we have list F.H. Larnder as the master of the vessel at that time. Shipping Master Howard Bligh shipped his personal effects to his home with the sum of $25.30 for his wages. He worked less than a month when he died at the age of 26 yrs.

My great grandfather was an engineer at that time. I'd love to get a list of the names in that photo.
