  Viennese-American sculptor. His name is most often spelled "Karl". He was killed in 1915 by being struck by a car.

  obviously over-interpreting here, but it is interesting how the texture of his coat is in sharper focus than the features of his face. this recreates in the me the feeling I had when I looked at grownups as a child: what caught my attention was often a detail in their attire at my eye level; their face was too distant for me to pay attention too (and their words too, more often than not).
