Reviewing a passage written by John Jay Schieffelin in Yale in the World War, Part One, by George Henry Nettleton (1925) (ISBN 076619695X, 9780766196957), entitled "The Second Yale Naval Unit," (Page 449), and comparing the names to The Yale Banner and Pot Pourri for 1915-1916, Edited by Russel Healey Lucas, Charles Rumford Walker, Jr., and Nelson Marion Way (1916), the names of those in the photograph are James Sanford Otis (presumably "Shorty Otis"), Edward deCernea, and John Jay Schieffelin. A chapter describing the performance of "The Second Yale Unit" authored by now-retired Rear Admiral John J. Schieffelin (USNR) was published in the book Naval Aviation In World War I, by Adrian O. Van Wyen (Historian, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations - Air) and the Editors of Naval Aviation News (1969).
