What the heck? I wonder if "Adam and Eve" had bathing machines. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bathing_machine

So, according to Wikipedia, these were pretty much relics by 1910 - which is why there are so many people swimming in the ocean outside of the machines. Ugh. What a hassle.

Remember the gas combustion engine, and how a single person would fire up one of them to transport themselves five miles to an office? It would be parked in huge specially created buildings that had no other purpose than to store the machine for the day. At the end of the work period, the individual would fire the thing up and transport themselves back to their home where the machine would sit in a specially created structure until it was used the next day. At one time the economy of the entire United States and many countries in Europe and Asia were dependent upon the manufacture and sales of these machines.
