    Jim Savage was a New Jersey boxer active in the ring from at least 1908 until at least 1917. Later he was a referee at Madison Square Garden, and a trainer. Thumbnail biography from The Cyber Boxing Zone.

    Jim Savage was a professional heavy weight boxer from 1898 to 1917. He fought over 120 fights around the world. He also did two silent films. Early in his career he sparred with Bob Fitzsimmons because Bob liked the speed of Jim and it was good for Bob in his later years. Fitzsimmonas became Jim's mentor and Jim lived with Fitzsimmons for a while. After his retirement from the ring he became the Athletic Director for the Motion Picture Club in NYC as well as a referee at Madision Square Garden (most notable) and other Athletic clubs in NY and NJ. During his retirement he became the personal trainer and bodyguard for the tin can magnate, Daniel G. Reid. Jim traveled with Reid for many years. Jim Savage died in 1946 in Orange, N.J.
