As a local yokel, I can say that nearly 100 years later than the photo above, Saratoga remains the summer "place to be."
The track season runs from late July until Labor Day. Everyone in this area (Albany, Schenectady & Troy) makes at least one pilgrimage to the track in Saratoga. It's a family outing complete with picnics. Lots of folks come up from New York City for the weekend too.
Here's someone's (not mine) recent Flickr photo of a lovely summer day at the track. All that's changed from vintage photo are the outfits!

The 1910 date listed for the Bain photo at the top of this webpage is incorrect and should be labeled 1913. If you search the Bain collection for "saratoga race track, " you get two citations only: Records containing the exact phrase: race track saratoga. 1. Horse racing - race track, Saratoga, July 1913 1913. 1 photographic print LOT 11146-7 LC-USZ62-120652(b&w film copy neg.) 2. Race track - Saratoga [no date recorded on caption card] 1 negative. Bain News Service, publisher. LC-B2- 2438-9 LC-DIG-ggbain-10754(digital file from original neg.) The two citations are for the same image -- which the image at the top of this Flickr page. Look closely at the people in the foreground to see that the two photos cited are identical (except one looks a little darker than the other). Thus, both photos have to be from July 1913 as in citation #1.
