I read the bio - and added a tag, "mule." This doesn't appear to be a horse, folks. Mules are smart and long on endurance.

It's a horse. This horse is a descendant of the horses that the Spanish brought over and is typically called a "cayouse," after the native tribe that used them. Look at some of Remington's works and you will see that most of the Indian and cow ponys of that time were like this pony. A tough breed and hard worker.

This is definitely not a mule -- the tag should be removed. It's a horse that's not especially attractive, but not necessarily a cayuse either -- just a good, sturdy horse of mixed breed, apparently roan in color. Frankly as long as the "mule" tag is removed the breed doesn't much matter.

Does anyone know where this baths was? (Or these baths were?!) I cannot find any reference to indoor baths in Sydney, except for at Dawes Point. Ironwork looks c.1890, but there are electric lamps, so possibly later? See Newcastle Municipal Baths -

2 things--I believe this is 14th looking up broadway (since the question was raised) and that thing behind the lady, now has a statue of Gandhi on it. (I would not have picked him, but they did not ask me-lol) Does this woman look black to anyone else? I think she is, which means the Salvation Army was intergrated when almost nothing else was. Unless they only used blacks for this kind of weather. hee hee Even if she is white, they probably were intergrated. addie B)
