  This is not Porthmadog but a view towards Porthmadog from Boston Lodge Works. The image is also the wrong way round the road across the Cob should be to the right of the railway from this location.

  When I saw this photo at Cornell in the late 1960s, it was captioned that this was the original Midland Shops in Oswego, near the site of the roundhouse.

  The inscription cites the South New BERLIN Herald and that appears to be the name on the depot sign. Also, this "inspection engine" (not car) may be number 26. The 6 on the cab has quite a flourish to it; compare with other pix of the 26.
