Named on sides as "Vestibule Sleeping Car" "Elsa". Maybe the Smithsonian (Washington DC USA) hold the original photo / card ? They hold many of Pullman's records: americanhistory.si.edu/archives/AC1175.html . This looks as though the location was Pullman Factory, Chicago, USA. See: "Remains of Pullman Factory" for a view of the factory building, albeit from a different angle, together with a Pullman (Chicago) Historical District placard at the 'Factory Fence', both of which identify the factory location, from the buildings in the background and the carriage traverser. Updated Jan 2018:

The company built a company town, also called "Pullman", Illinois on 4,000 acres (16 km²), 14 mi (23 km) south of Chicago in 1880. The town, entirely company-owned, provided housing, markets, a library, churches and entertainment for the 6,000 company employees and an equal number of dependents. The initial Pullman coaches imported into the UK, in 1874, by the Midland Railway (MR), were assembled (my phraseology) in the UK but manufactured in the US. The assembly was conducted by the Pullman Company who established sheds in Derby, alongside the main MR railway works. Source : American Pullman Cars of the Midland Railway. Note: It is not exactly clear how much local content was used in the assembly, as the phrase "crates of parts for the vehicles, supplied from the Detroit workshops of the Pullman Palace Car Company in knocked-down condition, were arriving [by the end of 1873] at Derby.... for re-assembly" (p14, ibid). I wonder therefore whether Eveleigh in fact assembled the coaches, e.g. HX1006 as distinct from fully manufactured. If so, that would be similar to the precedent set in the UK? Looks like some useful research you have performed, but may need a further cross-check, before assumptions (at least on my part) are confirmed.

Thanks but one, albeit vociferous, objector doesn't mean that the policy of possibly a few days earlier was reversed, even if there might be a polictical party supporting the issue raised. This, however, is NOT a forum for political matters. Doubtless, even at that time, there were such things as patents, and copyrights in names etc., hence the coaches you referred to be ing described as "Pullman style". Thus the purpose of this group is to document specific railway artefacts, of whatever manufacture / build or assembly, as the name describes - which are mostly late 19th century, early 20th century - and is it turns out given continued manufacture in the US, mid 20th century as well! So, the question remains : Assembly versus Manufacture? Some of the articles you have provided links to refer to books eqivalent to the UK one I have cited, plus there are the museum and state archival authorites. Hopefully they are close at hand?

Jasper Schaible Sorry, no additional information with this photo, it came many years ago with a donation of misc photos.

Two Fokker fuselages have recently been unloaded from their end-door baggage car and await assembly of their undercarriage strut/axel fairing structures with port and starboard wheels (one assembly lying on ground in center of photo between the two fuselages) prior to transporting them to nearby Melgaard Park in Aberdeen, South Dakota on April 24, 1919. This was the VLFC Mid-West Flight's 12th air show, and is documented in South Dakota History, Vol. 46, No. 1, 2016.
