Princess Sophie Helene Cecilie of Schönburg-Waldenburg (21 May 1885 - 3 February 1936) was the wife of Prince William of Wied. With her husband's ascension to the Albanian throne she became the Princess of Albania (Albanian: Princeshë e Shqipërisë). Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princess_Sophie_of_Sch%C3%B6nburg-W...

Belle epoque 1900s: thank you for identifying this woman. She does appear to be Archduchess Maria Immakulata of Austria. We will add her fuller name to the information when we update the database.

On taking another look at this image, the title of the photo indicates that it probably shows Princess Sophie Helene Cecilie of Schonburg-Waldenburg who was the wife of Prince William of Wied, Prince of Albania. We will include this information with "probably" in the description, until more information becomes available. Maria Immakulata of Austria and Princess Sophie do look very similar. Prince William's aunt Queen Elisabeth of Romania, on learning that the Great Powers were looking for a prince to rule over Albania, asked Take Ionescu to attempt to persuade them to appoint her nephew to the post. Eventually the European Great Powers -- Austria-Hungary, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, the French Third Republic, the German Empire, the Russian Empire and the Kingdom of Italy -- selected William, a member of the German princely house of Wied, to rule over newly-independent Albania. The announcement was made in November 1913 and the decision was accepted by Ismail Qemali, the head of the provisional government. The offer of the Albanian throne was first made to him in the spring of 1913 but he turned it down. Despite rejecting the offer, the Austrians put pressure on Prince William in an attempt to change his mind en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_of_Wied en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_of_Albania Prince Weid sounds better than King Zog
