    He succeeded to the throne of Greece on 18 March 1913, following his father's assassination. His wife was Princess Sophie of Prussia (Sophie Dorothea Ulrike Alice; June 14, 1870 – January 13, 1932). The children are listed at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sophia_of_Prussia Their sixth child was born in May 1913.

On June 28, 1914, Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg, were assassinated in Sarajevo, while on a visit to Serbia, which then was a province of Austria-Hungary. The assassination was a precipitating event in the clash of alliances that produced World War I. The assassin was a Serbian nationalist, Gavrilo Princip.
