beachcomber australia Thanks beachcomber! Looks almost exactly the same photograph. We think this work must have been undertaken between 1890 and 1920, looking at the men's clothing and the horse and cart.

Being a mistake was the story going around. Unfortunately the documents don't agree with the story. The tender for constructing a 160 sheerlegs crane was awarded to Easton and Anderson. Originally in 1883 the size was to have been 50 ton. That was later increased to 100 ton and then 160 ton. The government in NSW agreed to the increased size.
