  I agree with you that this is an outstanding shot. Posed but very clear, great DOF and focus and what a good looking family? Their dress is very sombre and there is no Mammy present, was there a tragedy before this was taken?

  To me it seemed like they were all grouped around the hole in the middle, the missing presence of Mother. The children are so composed, that their beautiful but stony faces seem to reinforce that they're holding the sadness in. And then again, they could just be being very well-behaved and still while having their picture taken.
