I love the comparison!

The paper mill on the other side of the river was Crown Zellerbach for 60 some years. My Grandfather told me ( long ago) that when they (<- ?) were clearing the land to build the mill that children who lived in the area would get a penny a piece for arrowheads they could find. At one time this was quite the gathering place for several of the different Indian Tribes of the area. At the end of the Oregon Trail. West Linn is on the other side of the river.

This is the dryer portion of a Fourdrinier machine. This is still the name for a papermaking machine and goes back to the original mechanization of the paper making process at the very end of the 18th C. "Fourdrinier" was not the inventor of the device (that was Nicolas Louis Robert) but the firm of London stationers who helped finance its development.

You need more photos of historical Pensacola, Florida on your site. I'm from that area and I didn't see anything about the Hotel San Carlos or Seville Square. I would love to see more early pictures of the area on Flickr. Thanks, Gloria Manna
