    Amazing to see the same kind of desks and benches, used here in 1918, that we had in elementary school in Rotterdam during the 50s.

    Why were they having lessons in the cold? Was it an experiment to see if it improved teaching and learning, compared with being indoors? or perhaps there was no indoors?

    @ Corky: The idea of open-air schools goes back to the beginning of the 20th century. It was supposed that lessons in the open air would prevent the development of tuberculosis in children.
