I actually photographed this less than a month ago when Covid caused me to travel back from Australia. It's known as the Old Market Cross and the oldest date I found was 1636.

61 & 60 are Arrol-Aster 2.4litre, 59 & 58 are Ford 2litre. 56-52 are Bugatti 2.3litre, 51 is a French SARA 1.8litre. Interesting to see them racing with the roof up!

Oh dear, @Notes. The race regulations required them to complete the first two laps with their hoods up - common racing practice in those days for touring car races, such as Le Mans.

In 1928 they had to put the hoods up and race for two laps with them up; in 1929 they had to put them down before setting off.
