P & O LINER STRATHAIRD Pleasure Cruise to Fiji Under the command of Captain J. W. Hartley the P & O liner Strathaird is due from London tomorrow and with a berth at New Farm Wharf about 5:30 p.m. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Leaving London on July 12 the Strathaird had 577 passengers which is an unusually large number for this time of the year. The steamer called at Tangiers and Gibraltar and on leaving Marseilles on July 20 she had 710 passengers. The usual calls were made at the Port Side Aden Bombay, and Colombo, and the weather was enjoyed during practically the whole of the voyage to Australia. The Strathaird, which has a number of round-voyage passengers, is a pioneer of the Australian cruising liners. She will sail from New Farm Wharf at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday on a pleasure cruise to Fiji and will be a full ship leaving Brisbane. For the convenience of passengers and their friends, the following telephones will be installed at New Farm Warf. First saloon B9877 and B6866 tourist class B5039. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OCEAN FORECAST Fresh easterly to south-easterly winds and rather rough seas New Caledonia to Queensland and central east-coast; fresh westerly over south Tasman Seas; fresh to strong northerly to north-westerly from south of Bight to Tasmania; fresh southerly and rising seas around a south-west quarter of Continent advancing to Bight. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 24 August 1935; The Courier-Mail, Brisbane, Qld Source: trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/36750535#
