Is that a drone above the power pole or maybe a distant helicopter, or maybe a near dragonfly?

Ryans, Whelan and Fitzgerald are all there in the 1911 census.

The 60 large bedrooms, not to mention the 20 smaller ones would also have required an army of servants. The gallery was 100 feet in lenght. The castle was occupied, looted and burnt in 1922 by the IRA. Never rebuilt, its stones later sold and used in building a Cistercian Abbey. WIKI

Beachcomber guessed (very roughly) that exterior was maybe 1900ish last time.

A mainly useless digression: In the catalogue, after the sequence of castle shots, there is L_ROY_01079 tagged 1880-1900, of Mitchelstown Square. While there is no guarantee that this is the same time as the castle shot, I tried to date it anyway.

I see a shop way off in the background looks like Delaney, a butcher. No, the 1893 Guys says Delarue, Victualller, a better fit.

But then, squinting carefully, I see bushes in the windows of the house beyond Delarue, significant because of this:


which we dated earlier at June 1887!

A great wee bit of history in this. Do you know whether they were successful in their attempt to get lower rents - or does the title of this mean they were evicted?

Vab2009 No other information yet, but would love to find out more information about the Plan of Campaign in the Mitchelstown area, the landlord(s) involved, and would die happy if anyone knows about the O'Sullivans in particular...

And two doors down is the local cop shop! There is a very good article on Wikipedia on the plan of campaign and it appears that the Tipperary and North Cork areas were deeply involved. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plan_of_Campaign The Plan of Campaign was a stratagem adopted in Ireland between 1886 and 1891, co-ordinated by Irish politicians for the benefit of tenant farmers, against mainly absentee and rack-rent landlords. It was launched to counter agricultural distress caused by the continual depression in prices of dairy products and cattle from the mid 1870s, which left many tenants in arrears with rent. Bad weather in 1885 and 1886 also caused crop failure, making it harder to pay rents. The Land War of the early 1880s was about to be renewed after evictions increased and outrages became widespread.
