There is a bit of a local connection here as Secretary McAdoo's boss and Father-in-Law, Woodrow Wilson visited Carlisle in Cumbria UK where his mother was born. The house of her birth still exits in Warwick Street and sports a blue plaque which can be seen at: www.flickr.com/search/groups/?q=woodrow%20wilson&w=10...

Interestingly, Vincent Price portrayed him in the movie "Wilson."

William Gibbs McAdoo (1863–1941) was Woodrow Wilson's first Secretary of the Treasury, serving from 1913 until 1918. In 1914 he married Wilson's daughter, Eleanor. A native of Georgia and graduate of the University of Tennessee, he had a business career in New York prior to his service in Wilson's cabinet, and after leaving the administration he eventually moved to California where he was elected to the U.S. Senate, serving a single term beginning in 1933.
