Hegenberger piloted an Atlantic-Fokker C-2 trimotor named "Bird of Paradise," non-stop departing from Oakland, CA, on June 28, 1927, and arriving at Wheeler Field, Oahu, Hawaii, on June 29, 1927, completing the first non-stop flight from California to Hawaii.
