    It is rare to see a photo of the actual Fort Macquarie. The boats are lovely too! but the cropping suggests that they were secondary to the photographer's intentions

    I'm afraid I won't be able to help with dating the shot as I was hitched by 1973 and Zero's Disco was not on my social calendar. Just a few aspects to point out, all the cars are facing west as the north quays were one way in that direction at that time, that didn't change until after 1978. The facility was now boarded or galvanised up as it had become a meeting place for (shock horror) gay men and a number of muggings had taken place there. We're gone away from that abuse of gay people (I hope?) In the distance you can see the green copper top to the tower in Guiness's and the chimney nearby which I think is gone now? The Liffey doesn't look too bad but believe me it still stank and was not nearly as clean as it is today!

    Swordscookie That's terrible about the muggings! Did not know that. Do you know what that Guinness tower is called, or if there's a nickname for it - sure there must be? And thanks for spotting the cars/one way system. Complete opposite to now.

And according to this link it was the "largest smock windmill" in Europe, it was actually used to power the making of Roes WHISKEY!!! and not Guiness at all, and that's a surprise to me!! www.classicwhiskey.com/history/georowhis.htm
