This looks like Ruislip Gardens, not South Ruislip

West End Road facing north. Ruislip Gardens station would be just out of shot to the right. The turning on the immediate left is for Bedford Road on which I grew up.

Yes, one of the 1930s style escalators built by Waygood-Otis for the Underground. I'll need to think hard if this is one of the reconstructed central area stations, where these replaced lifts, or one of the new extension stations (such as the Piccadilly line north of Finsbury Park in 1932/2). The design was wonderful - bronze toned metalwork, and varnished timber side panels, and those wonderful Charles Holden designed uplighters. Very few now survive on the system - the uplighters were sadly mostly removed in the 1970s and '80s but a few stations do still have them, including St Johns Wood and Southgate. The timber panels and step pallets were replaced, wholesale, following the tragic Kings Cross escalator fire of 1987 and subsequent new fire legislation.

The more I consider this it could be Leicester Square station, the escalators here went into service in early 1935.
