I know that the LOC uses the title given by the originator of the image; but the use of "mob" connotes a violent assemblage. Perhaps putting the originator's words in quotes would highlight the prejudice (?) inherent in the original text.

It was a group of white people going to protest integration, many of whom shouted and hurled violent epithets and in some cases actual physical objects. I think mob is a fair term here.
