"Dr Kelvin Kong and Dr Mark Wenitong are two prominent leaders in Indigenous health, but they say they faced several obstacles throughout their journey of studying western medicine while keeping true to their culture." Source: www.sbs.com.au/topics/voices/culture/article/2016/10/21/m...

The Japanese occupied Nauru for three years (26th August 1942 - 13 September 1945). Nauru is a Pacific Island which was under Australian administration. The population of Nauru was decimated by several diseases against which they had no immune defences. The Island was mined for phosphate and was a valuable source of income for Australia. Nauru is still in the process of recovering from the decimation of the Island by mining from Colonial powers as well as by the Japanese Occupied Force. (source Wikipedia)

This photograph was obviously taken by someone other than Jimmy Forsyth, so if you want to claim copyright please let us know.

It's the very person who inspired me with my photography :) Although I kinda messed on with photography in my teens, it wasn't until I was in my mid-20s that I discovered Jimmys work and what he had singlehandedly achieved against all those odds. It taught me that it doesn't matter what age, sex or social standing you are that you can do so much. Once I'd finally mastered the basics (I wouldn't listen to anyone when a teenager!) I literally took off with my hobby. I've far more to show than what I dump onto Flickr now and then. One day it will be shown.. Jimmy was well known and well loved by so many in the North East. There were others too but this man opened my world.
