Arundel Square is a very specific area after all - or Anurdel Square as it says in the online census. I had hoped he might be something to do with the Joseph Knox shop on Barronstrand Street, but they were Hardware sellers...

National Library of Ireland on The Commons James Knox is 60 in 1901. Even if this shot is 1884, he would be 45. I don't think this gentleman is that old. I think this might be a son of James Knox who moved out between this photo and 1901. This could well be Joseph Knox, who by 1901 is 29 and living as Head of his Own Family a stones throw away in Barronstrand Street (with just one servant for company!). He was born in Co. Kilkenny, like James Knox.
