Adverts for The Witness and Jubilee Assembly appeared in the Irish Times (end the the Evening Irish Times) on Monday 7th July 1890

On 10th of July the Evening Irish Times had a similar notice, but added that there would be "Fullest Reports of the Jubilee celebrations" . The Northern Whig reported on the 2nd day of the Jubilee Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland on Wdnesday 9th July, so it must have begun on Monday 7th July.

The Witness Following the disappearance of the Banner of Ulster in 1870 and the Evening Press in 1971 [I guess it should be 1871 - JS], the Presbyterian community in Ulster was left without a newspaper. The Rev Thomas Hamilton of York Street Church (later the vice chancellor of Queens University Belfast), and a number of others then launched The Witness, a penny weekly. The first number was dated January 2, 1874. Alexander McMonagle was appointed editor and manager, and held these positions until his death in June 1919.

Several articles in following years quote it, until the late 1920s, even though one quote is prefaced: "The otherwise very reliable and excellent little Dictionary of Dublin says: [etc etc]" (Weekly Freeman's Journal - Saturday 05 December 1914)

The word on the street is that National Library of Ireland on The Commons has a copy

Number 24 not only has the Gunpowder Office but also the big sign advertising the photographery business Chancellors, who advertised their Movable Boudoir to convey Sitters to the Galleries. Nothing else of interest at all in picture 24.

What's the roof stretching left from the clock tower? Is it a church with a weird roof and no windows or is it a cinema?

The lamps on the bridge are still there but the globes have changed a number of times over the years.
