    Definitely the corner of O'Connell Street and Bachelor's Walk, with Westmoreland Street in the distance, over the bridge. Peterson's Pipes are still around.

    I agree that this is in O'Connell Street just past the junction with Bachelors Walk! These crowd scenes are excellent for looking at dress, uniforms, conditions and the changes that have taken place in the meantime. The majority of the police on display here are DMP(G) with the bobby helmets with the exception of the Inspector/Officer on the left with either a sabre or walking stick. The senior ranks of the Garda retained these sticks as part of the uniform right up to the Conroy Commission in the late '60's. Kapp and Petersons were the shop on the corner and a source of great pipes and fine tobacco in the days when smoking was healthy and beneficial to all an sundry!
