Mrs. Cynthia Alden (LOC)

Cynthia May Westover Alden (1862-1931), American journalist: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cynthia_May_Alden
  • Wystan said:
Wikipedia appears to be unaware of her legal troubles: Mrs. Alden was the founder of the International Sunshine Society, a million-dollar charity, which operated sanitaria, a home for girls, an orphanage for blind babies, and other institutions. The Society's troubles began in 1913 when New York Attorney General Thomas Carmody held that it could not legally operate a home for blind babies under its charter. An investigation disclosed scandalously-casual accounting of donations and disbursements, and the possibility of graft. Thanks mik.maine, for the link to the great video. Woody's song adds so much by telling the story of the coal miners' strike in Colorado, and the Ludlow Massacre. We'll fill in more information the next time we update the record.

Capt. Philip Vancise, [Colo. Militia Commision,] Maj. E.J. Boughton, Capt. W.C. Danks (LOC)

In May 1914, Major Edward J. Boughton, Judge Advocate of the Military District of Colorado, was subpoenaed to appear in New York City before the Federal Commission on Industrial Relations, before a committee investigating the Ludlow Massacre. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludlow_Massacre Vancise, Boughton, and Danks coauthored the official report on the massacre, made to the Governor of Colorado.
