  "Myōkō (妙高?) was the lead ship of the four-member Myōkō class of heavy cruisers of the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN), which were active in World War II.   The Imperial Japanese Navy protected cruiser IJN Soya. As suggested in the handwritten caption, this ship is the former Russian Navy warship Varyag, captured during the Russo-Japanese War. IJN Soya (ex- Varyag) would later be returned to Russia in 1916, and once more sail under her original name.
