On JASON (LOC)

US Navy supply ship, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Jason_(AC-12) the date on the photo indicates it is the mission listed in Wiki: Jason was once again involved in a humanitarian gesture as she sailed from New York 14 November, bearing Christmas gifts for the Mediterranean fleet and the people of Europe.
  • Barbara (LOC P&P) said:
Thanks for pointing out the date and context. We'll add some information when we update the description.

Maj. F.H. Lawton (LOC)

  • TVL1970 said:
The unnamed naval officer in the photograph, standing next to Major Frank H. Lawton (US Army), is Lt. Commander Charles E. Courtney (USN). Courtney (USNA 1899) was the commander of the USS Jason at the time (likely November 11, 1914, see other recently LOC/Bain posted photos of USS Jason and Maj. F.H. Lawton). Courtney would ultimately rise to the rank of Vice Admiral before retiring from the Navy.

I agree, this looks like the outside of the terminal building in Brooklyn where the Christmas Ship presents were being packed.
