Arthur Charles Hubert Latham Special Collection Photo North Island San Diego

The caption underneath the picture 'Hubert Latham in his Antoinnet Monoplane is not correct as the monoplane in the middle is not an 'Antoinette' (sic) but an early version of the Blériot Type XI monoplane. As far as I know Hubert Latham never flew for Blériot but only for the Levavasseur firm, the designer and builder of the Antoinette monoplanes. At right is a Curtiss biplane. Presumably the picture is taken at an early flying week (1909 or 1910 ?) also evidenced by the seats visible at the left side.

Kees is totally correct. Don't think this photo has anything to do with Latham at all. Stig

This is a very odd photo to be in H Latham's Collection. Latham flow his last flight in USA on Jan 10th, 1911 and on Jan 30th that year he left by boat for Japan. After this Latham more or less gave up flying, only performing very sporadically in 1911. I find it impossible that any such advanced aeroplane, such as the one depicted, would have been built in USA by 1911. The written text on the photo says Commemorating Beacheys and the way the front is draped in a US flag it rather looks like someone is commemorating his death, which of course was not until 1915. Unfortunately no clue what it is we are looking at. Stig

Of all photos you have here under A.C.H. Latham, this is basically the only one with any relevancy to the man. One more photo that depicts the two (known) Antoinettes he brought with him to USA is also shown, but I think that was taken after Latham already had departed. Stig I have now looked through the rest of the photos, and there are a couple more that shows the man and two additional ones which depicts one of his Antoinettes in 1910, but that's it
