Before he became the first President of the Weimar Republic, the Social Democrat Friedrich Ebert was the head (Vorsitzender) of the Rat der Volksbeauftragten (Council of the People's Deputies) that ruled Germany between the November Revolution 1918 until the next elected government took over on February 13, 1919; from December 29, this council called itself Reichsregierung (Reich's Government). So this image was taken between Nov. 10-Dec. 28, 1918. It's ironic that the photographer, H. Noack, still advertises that he used to be the photographer for the Imperial Court (Hofphotograph).
