    The spy obsession was more from 1912 onwards than 1902, but it may not have been part of that particular bout of hysteria. "Terms of Peace" suggests the end of the Boer war.

    All talking about "Peace" and "Terms of Peace" which will have been the end of the 2nd Boer War which ended in May 1902. It was an unpopular war which had seen the introduction of things such as concentration camps, "scorched earth" and internment which eradicated dramatically support for the war. An impressive array of newspapers - The Newry Reporter, The Newry Telegraph as well as The Irish Times and Independent, The Weekly Freeman. The Newry Reporter of course still exists but no sign of Newry's third local paper The Newry Standard. The same view today - maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=hill+street+newry&ll=54.1738...

    The "Frontier Sentinel" was mentioned in the Newry Reporter on Tuesday 25 October 1904 - it wanted a share of the council's advertisements. Edit: the first issue was Saturday 15th October 1904 (as reported in the Irish News and Belfast Morning News - Monday 17 October 1904)
