"Pave Hawk" is the name for the Air Force's Sikorsky HH-60 (S-70) Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) helicopters. However, the photos in this collection would seem to pre-date the use of that name for those helicopters. Taken with other Teledyne Ryan photos in this latest release of SDASM photos, I wonder if "PAVE HAWK" referenced in the logo above references an unknown member of the PAVE-series of surveillance, observation, and designation systems developed prior to 1979 (ex. PAVE KNIFE, PAVE PENNY, PAVE TACK, etc.)? This would be in keeping with the adaptation and development by Ryan of their UAVs for such use from the '60s and onward.

The picture shows the Pacific Hawk a six-place, enclosed, twin motored biplane designed by O.W. Timm, engineer for the Pacific Airplane & Supply Co. to meet the demand for a small low priced pleasure or commercial ship of the twin-motored type. Date 1920. Otto Timm was Wally's older brother and at my guess more of a designer than Wally. But I think Wally is underestimated by historians and if he or Otto actually built all those 'homebuilts' between 1911-20 is to me an open question. Stig
