I looked long at this one as it was difficult to identify. Sure is not a machine with a similarity to the Taube, the crucial wing construction is a 'normal' monoplane construction here. In the end this is not even a German machine but a Hanriot monoplane. As these machines evaluated in time, for instance the steering system evaluated from the Antoinette-system steering wheels at the fuselage side, to handles at the side of the fuselage to finally this method of steering wheel. This is most likely the last Hanriot model (year 1912) a two-seater version, with extra oil tanks. It could be deduced that this special machine was modified for a long distance or endurance competition.

I would identify this machine as a Hanriot monoplane (1912)

Hello SDASM and Kees Kort,
The photo shows the pilot Ernst Schlegel (1882-1976) on an aircraft from the famous "Automobil und Aviatik Werke Mülhausen" in 1912. At that time, Schlegel was a flight instructor in Gotha.
The aircraft is a licensed replica of a Hanriot.

This aircraft happens to be Charles Nungesser's Hanriot HD-1, which he flew in America. The aircraft still exists and resides in the Planes of Fame Museum in Chino, California. Thanks to Thearodrome.com, where contributors found the solution.

I noticed a typing error in the title and the tag. Both give Hanroit, while it should be Hanriot. When doing a search within the SDASM Archives on the wrong term of Hanroit I got a lot of pictures, maybe 25 - 30. Although I am not that precise, I noticed this typing error when doing some research into the Hanriot machines.
