Street View 2017 The Hotel opened in 1897 (www.themetropolehotel.ie/our-story.html) and was was largely rebuilt and extended during 1910-11 after a large fire (archiseek.com/2012/1900-hotel-metropole-cork/). This photo was thus taken between 1897 and 1910.

John Spooner There must have been, mustn't there? Never seen such an array of flags in our photos without some event or other... Naval visit perhaps?

The The Galway and Salthill Tramway Company operated a passenger tramway service in Galway between 1879 and 1918.

I can't see the Pratt's ad, but I think 1890 is too early if we're talking about Pratt's Motor Spirit. The very earliest Irish motor cars (as he have seen previously) were around 1900..
