    By my calculations, if this woman is about 70, she was coming of age during the Regency, one of my favorite eras. There's a bit of an 1830s influence in her dress as it is. :D

    I agree with Miss History. The style of the cap she is wearing is definitely early 1800s. The ruffled edge is pervasive through about 1850. Just as today when many women don't change their hair styles after they finish school, women of that time wore the same type of caps for their whole lives.

    Kildallan and Tomregan are both townlands in Cavan, but some distance (20km) apart.

    Dismissing as without foundation the mythical tales which connect Edgar Poe with noble families of Europe, it seems certain that his great-great-grandfather was David Poe, a tenant-farmer in Dring, in the parish of Kildallon and County Cavan, Ireland, who died in 1742. David's son, John Poe, emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1749 or 1750,(29) having married Jane McBride, daughter, it is [page 14:] possible, though not certain, of a clergyman, Reverend Robert McBride, and sister of an admiral of the Blue, John McBride. After living for a time in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, John Poe moved to Baltimore, where he died in 1756.

    John's eldest son, David, had been born in Ireland in 1742 or 1743. He carried on his business of making spinning wheels and clock reels, on Market Street in Baltimore from 1775.

    Having eyeballed the Google aerial view of Dring, I do not think this ruin is still there. (Of course, it may never have been in the actual townland marked as Dring.)

    More Googling: "David Poe's will, dated August 25, 1742, described him as of 'Dring Parish of Kildallon, County Cavan, Farmer. In the old vestry book of Kildallon, he is mentioned as the overseer of roads in the parish. The ruin is of a substantial house, and Poe sounds like a Big Cheese, perhaps this is the building marked as Dring Ho. which was here: Streetview
