A postcard on sale on eBay, has this photo. The postcard was associated with the German Red Cross. See www.ebay.com/itm/Graf-von-Zeppelin-Portrait-Red-Cross-Pos... which has description, "Picture postcard featuring Graf von Zeppelin -- army officer (retiring at as Generalleutnant, or Major General), Civil War fighter (he volunteered in the American Civil War on the Union side), explorer (took part in an expedition to the source of the Mississippi -- this last I didn't know, saw it on Wikipedia), and, of course, invented the rigid airship that bears his name, the 'Zeppelin'. This is a German Red Cross donation card."

If so, page 3 may suggest more context for the photo: "The following article is from the pen of Mr. Edwvard Marshall and was printed in the New York "Times" of September 6, 1914, a few days after Dr. Dernburg's arrival in the United States in the interest of the Red Cross Society."
